APOCALYPTIC ORNITHOLOGY

In the 1960s, less than 5% of birds were found with plastic in their stomachs. Twenty years later, over 80% of birds had plastic in their stomachs.

BERNICE STEINBAUM GALLERY is proud to present: Apocalyptic Ornithology, a solo exhibition featuring the assemblage work of artist Thomas Deininger, opening Saturday, April 13th, 5 - 8 pm.

“Thomas Deininger finds materials that fit the needs of his anticonsumerist artmaking lying everywhere in our modern world, the very byproduct of our lustful excess, some from landfills. It is our trash. He meticulously collects his parts every day, and brings them home to his studio, where they will wait until they find their purpose... Sculptures like these are not merely done on demand... They are the slow culmination of a studio that breathes in others' waste and breathes out these assemblage pieces that are equal parts exercise in perspective and anti-establishment commentary.” - Mario Rodriguez
